The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has awarded a total of ₦8.5 million to outstanding graduating students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, at the institution’s 35th Convocation Ceremony, in recognition of academic excellence. The governor was represented at the event by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele.

The cash award included ₦500,000 each for 13 best graduating students across various faculties, while ₦2 million was presented to Ajayi David of the Faculty of Engineering, who emerged as the overall best graduating student. Governor Abiodun described the gesture as part of his administration’s commitment to rewarding excellence, nurturing talent, and promoting innovation in the education sector.

He urged the graduates to remain curious, committed to lifelong learning, and worthy ambassadors of the university. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Agboola, praised the state government’s support, noting that OOU currently ranks 16th nationally and second among state-owned universities, a reflection of its growing academic strength and research visibility.
