Operatives of the Sakura Division of the Ogun State Police Command have thwarted a robbery attempt in the Sagamu Local Government Area of the state, recovering the suspects’ operational vehicle in the process.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when about five armed men attempted to break into a residence in the Okearedi, Araromi community.
Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, said the command received a distress call around 1:45 a.m. and immediately dispatched patrol operatives to the scene.
“On sighting the patrol team, the hoodlums fled in different directions, prompting a hot pursuit by our officers,” Odutola stated. “Their operational vehicle — a black Lexus GS 350 with registration number OGUN TTD 452 TT — was recovered at the entrance of the community.”
She added that a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of fireworks, commonly known as knockouts, suspected to have been intended as a distraction during the operation.
Commending the swift and coordinated response of the officers, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing, noting that personnel have been deployed to identified flashpoints across Ogun State as part of end-of-year security measures.
Ogunlowo urged residents to remain vigilant, particularly when returning home late at night, and advised them to ensure proper lighting of dark or isolated areas to discourage criminal activities.
