Governor Seyi Makinde on Tuesday presented a ₦891.9 billion budget proposal for 2026 to the Oyo State House of Assembly, describing it as a plan designed to push the state into deeper economic growth.

He said the proposal allocates ₦502.8 billion to capital projects and ₦389.1 billion to recurrent expenses, with major investments directed at infrastructure, education, health, and agriculture. Makinde noted that key ongoing projects—including free trade zones, agro-processing hubs, the upgraded airport, and modern transport terminals—are positioning the state for global market integration.

The governor added that improved internally generated revenue, achieved without raising taxes, has strengthened the state’s fiscal stability. He described the 2026 proposal as a continuation of reforms that have expanded productivity, job creation, and long-term economic competitiveness.

Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin praised the proposal, saying it reflects a commitment to sustainable development in line with the state’s medium-term expenditure framework.
