The Lagos State Government has announced a four-week partial closure of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway, starting Wednesday, February 11, to allow the Federal Ministry of Works carry out rehabilitation on failed sections of the road. The closure affects both inbound and outbound lanes between U-Turn Bus Stop and Sango Tollgate.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the repair works would be executed in two phases to minimise traffic disruption. Phase One, scheduled from February 11 to March 4, will affect Abeokuta-bound traffic, while Phase Two, running from March 4 to March 11, will affect Lagos-bound traffic. Rehabilitation will be carried out on one lane at a time, with traffic diverted to completed sections as work progresses.
Osiyemi assured motorists that adequate traffic management measures would be in place throughout the project, adding that traffic on the unaffected carriageway would flow freely during each phase. He advised road users to plan their journeys ahead, obey traffic signs and cooperate with traffic officials, appealing for patience as the repairs are carried out in the interest of public safety.
