A suspected member of the Aiye confraternity has been arrested in Igbesa, marking another step in the Ogun State Police Command’s effort to curb cult-related activities across the state.
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Sulaiman Laja, was apprehended by operatives of the Igbesa Division after he was spotted moving in disguise. He was taken to his hideout, where a search led to the recovery of a functional single-barrel gun believed to have been used in criminal operations within the community.
Police say Laja confessed to being an active member of the Aiye cult group and gave information that helped identify other members who are currently on the run. A manhunt for the fleeing accomplices has begun.
Both the suspect and the recovered weapon are to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Ogun State Police Command says it remains committed to eliminating criminal elements and ensuring the safety and stability of communities across the state.
